In recent years accommodation in Athens has really improved in terms of choice and variety. If anything there are too many options now and many people may be overwhelmed with information.
Some of the best hotels in Athens are close to the Acropolis and many have great views and rooftop bars, swimming pools and restaurants. Whilst the luxury hotels in Athens are located in the best neighbourhoods and with the most spectacular views, there are also some cheap hotels in Athens that will still be convenient and very comfortable. Here we list our favourite Acropolis view hotels to suit all budgets!
The Foundry is a fairly recent addition to the Athens accommodation scene and is a real gem.
Set in a former Foundry ( funnily enough) in the trendy inner suburb of Psyri, this conversion has been done with thoughtful design and a sense of humour. The rooms are quirky but very comfortable with all the industrial features of the former Foundry, including the wind-out window winches. Furnishings include a retro record player and vinyl albums and working vintage telephones.
We especially love the rooftop picnic garden which is a very tranquil place to relax, enjoy a drink and take in the excellent panoramic views of the Acropolis and the local neighbourhood.
Some of Athens best bars, cafes and tavernas are right on the doorstep of The Foundry and Psyri is a very affordable and popular night time precinct, much loved by many.
With only 12, very well priced rooms at The Foundry bookings are tight so don’t miss out!
12 rooms and apartments
Amenities : Rooftop garden and picnic area, extensive library, wine cellar, bearkfast baskets.
The Zillers Boutique Hotel opened in 2016 and quickly became a favourite of ours. Located right on one of the main dining streets, Mitropolous, Zillers is smack bang in the middle of all the main sights and right across the road from the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. The front rooms have wonderful views across to the Acropolis from their balconies.
Rooms in this converted historic mansion are very big and well-appointed with polished timber floors and huge bathrooms, with modern elements that blend beautifully with the 19th-century architecture.
There is also an excellent rooftop bar and restaurant serving modern Greek cuisine in an intimate setting, with panoramic Acropolis views.
In terms of location and value for money Zillers Hotel Athens is hard to beat.

Amenities : Rooftop Restaurant, bar and garden, honesty bar
360 Degrees Hotel is a fantastic mid-range hotel located right on Monastiraki Square, the focal point of Athens for many. The square is home to the famous Monastiraki Flea Market as well as a Metro Station and is minutes from many of Athens most popular sights.
As the name suggests the rooftop bar and restaurant have 360-degree views of Athens and from there you can see not just the Acropolis but many other ancient sites of Athens.
The hotel is designed with an urban industrial/art theme and you can find various retro pieces and artworks throughout the hotel.
There are 20 rooms in this boutique hotel and with a very competitive price point, it offers fantastic value for money.
Amenities : Restaurant and bar, business services, airport shuttle
Since 2011 Ergon Foods have been curating local produce and products for customers in their modern-day ‘Agora’ or market in both Athens and Thessaloniki. They now have 13 stores around the world including London, Brussels and several Greek Islands.
In 2019 they became the first ‘food hotel’ in the world with the opening of Ergon House, a new chapter in their business and a welcome addition to the Athens scene.
With an enviable position on Mitroplous Street – just a few doors up from Zillers Hotel, Ergon House is home to just 18 rooms. The hotel sits above the market and restaurant which provides both room service and all the products in the mini-bar ( which did not last long during my recent visit!).
The rooms are contemporary in style and are a result of a collaboration with leading local designers and artists, paying tribute to Greece’s love of natural material and local craft. There is now also a rooftop oasis offering signature cocktails and those amazing Acropolis views as well as rumours of possible Glamping plans for the future.
Apart from the beautiful fit-out and the fantastic amenities the service is also a standout. I had a late international flight on my day of checkout and it was 104/40 degrees. They didn’t just offer to store my bags but moved me to a larger available suite and extended my checkout time to 4 pm, which allowed me to shower and change before heading to the airport. At no extra charge!
Ergon House have a unique offering in Athens but they also really do seem to understand the concept of ‘accommodating’ their guests.
Amenities : Restaurant, market and delicatessen, wine shop, gelato cart, coffee shop, rooftop bar, business centre & meeting rooms.
A for Athens is a small boutique hotel with arguably one of the best acropolis views in Athens. Even if you are not staying here we recommend you pop up to the rooftop bar for a drink, particularly at sunset, although it is a fairly small space so it does pay to book ahead.
Located across from Monastiraki Square and only meters away from Ermou street, the main pedestrian shopping mall in Athens, its location is hard to beat.
The minimalist rooms are tastefully decorated in green tones with wooden floors and all the modern amenities. Some rooms have large double-glazed windows across Monastiraki square, the Plaka neighborhood, and the Acropolis as a magnificent backdrop.
Rooms are comfortable and well priced and are located in a renovated 1960’s mid-rise building with a small elevator. The entertainment district of Psyiri is right behind the hotel and the Monastiraki Metro stop is right in front.
